Congregational Meeting

We will meet briefly after church on Sunday, October 8, to review the church budget. We will also vote to approve a change in Pastor Baile’s call (salary increase).

Fall Sunday School Classes

There are two options for Sunday school classes: The Art of Neighboring, taught by Pastor Charlie Baile and Katy Meilleur. This will be an interactive, participatory book study Sunday school class as we prayerfully consider how we can better minister in our neighborhoods. This class will meet in room 13.

Russ Rushton will take us through the first half of the classic book, Knowing God, by J. I. Packer in room 10/11. It is the 50th anniversary of this book!

Giving Options

Give online, mail in a check (Shady Grove Presbyterian Church, 16911 Redland Rd. Derwood, MD 20855), or drop an offering in the Check Deposit Box located outside the church office. Thank you!

40th Annual Shady Grove Pregnancy Center Benefit Banquet, October 26

A table has been reserved for interested members of Shady Grove PCA to attend the Shady Grove Pregnancy Center’s 40th Annual Benefit Banquet. All the details are in the link below, or contact the church office. Registration is required.

Support Chaplain Ministries through the Combined Federal Campaign

Plugged in Lunch Coming October 22

Looking for ways to serve the church body? We will host a lunch on Sunday, October 22, after the worship service for anyone interested in learning more about the various opportunities to serve. There will be representatives from the tech team, the Brute Squad, children’s ministry, and many more. All this and lunch!

Family Harvest Outing for Shady Grove Families

On Saturday, October 28 at 10am, we will return to Sharp’s Farm at Waterford, 4003 Jennings Chapel Rd, Brookeville, MD 20833. We will be meeting for a hayride and plenty of pumpkin fun. You won’t want to miss!

Place 4 You – P4U – Women’s Bible Study

Join us in this Fall as we study:  God of Deliverance:  A Study of Exodus 1-18, with Jen Wilkin. We just started recently and there is still space! We meet weekly on Tuesdays, 9:30am-noon and Thursdays, 7:00-9:00pm. Workbooks will be available in each class for $8.00.  Come and be blessed!

Mom’s Night Kickoff

Friday evening, October 13, at the home of Hannah Hawes in Boyds, the moms will begin their Mom’s Night Out events. An RSVP is requested by October 12. Please contact Jackie Davidson, Hannah Hawes, or the church office for more information.

In-Person Prayer Meeting

All ladies are invited to gather and pray on Thursday, October 19, from 2-3pm in room 10/11.

Take a Hike! Men’s Hike to Annapolis Rock

Saturday, November 18, the men will take a 5-mile hike to Annapolis Rock, considered one of the best hikes and views in Maryland. Fathers are encouraged to bring their sons who are able to handle a five-mile hike. Make your plan to join us! More details and a sign up will be forthcoming.

Local Ministry Opportunities: Clean the Closets for a Coat Drive

We will be collecting coats, new or used (but not abused) in conjunction with Port Towns PCA, a local church plant in a needy area. We are collecting coats for all ages and sizes. For the month of October, boxes will be in the lobby marked for the coat drive. Gloves, hats, and scarves are also welcome!

Local Ministry Opportunities: ESOL Teachers Needed

Covenant Life Church sponsors a large and growing ESOL program, providing English classes for adults at South Lake Elementary School (SLES) on Monday and Wednesday evenings.  Our program serves SLES parents and other members of the surrounding community who are new to our community and would like to improve their English.  The ESOL program is seeking new volunteers, and we would welcome members of the Shady Grove Presbyterian congregation to join us.  Classes begin on October 16, and volunteers serve one night each week (either Monday or Wednesday). We have a specific need for a teacher for our Beginner 2 class that meets on Wednesday evening.  If you would like to learn more please, ask questions, or join the ESOL team, please contact the church office.

Local Ministry Opportunities: The Micah Cart

The Micah “Basket” that has been recently located in the hallway outside the church office has become a Micah Cart. This ministry restocks the food pantry at Gaithersburg HELP. Here’s a list of items currently needed.

Short Term Mission Opportunity

The Shannons are coming to town on Wednesday, October 18th to discuss an immediate opportunity in Peru. They are putting together a 4-6 person work team for late November (dates TBD). The goal is to install a roof and complete the 2nd floor walls on the Training Center for the Quechua peoples with disabilities – all before the rainy season. Toby and Sara will be at Dave & Marie Pasti’s home on October 18 for dinner at 6:30 pm. You are welcome to come to dinner and find out more information. Please RSVP to the Pasti’s. There will be other opportunities in 2024.
